NEW ORLEANS, LA – (March 20, 2012) -- The New Orleans Jesters have released their 2012 schedule. The minor league soccer team will debut in New Orleans during their opening match on Saturday, May 19th at Pan American Stadium. The Jesters promise to provide an exciting season both on and off the field, with a renewed focus on our community and on our local youth.
“We are optimistic about the upcoming season,” stated Dana Stumpf, CEO/Owner of the New Orleans Jesters. “While our team goal is winning on the field, our entire organization is focused on providing affordable, family-friendly entertainment and on continuing to make a positive impact on the next generation.”
The Jesters’ league play will run from May to July with possible championship play in early August. The schedule will be comprised of competition with teams in the Southern Conference of United Soccer Leagues, such as El Paso, Houston and Austin to name a few. The opening home game will be an interesting match-up against the new expansion team in Houston, the Texas Lions.
“This year’s schedule will produce a challenging, yet different, season,” said Jesters’ Head Coach Kenny Farrell, former PDL Coach of the Year. “Our league is growing, and with that comes new teams, new cultures and new players. It will make for an interesting year.”
The New Orleans Jesters will compete in the Mid-South Division of the United Soccer Leagues’ PDL. In 2011, the Jesters barely missed the playoffs with a record of 7-7-2 (23 points).
In addition to the minor league team, the Jesters have introduced their NOLA Soccer Academy. This non-profit entity will serve as the youth development and community arm of the New Orleans Jesters. One of its missions is to provide a local and affordable option for quality soccer programming, development, and competition for the area’s youth.
“We are very excited about the expansion of our youth development program,” states Stumpf. “We are proud of our partnership with the City’s top recreational group, Carrollton Boosters, and look forward to expanding into a full youth club and developmental pyramid over the next few years.”
The Jesters will also host a full slate of youth camps and clinics during the summer months. The camps will be located at indoor facilities, Big Easy Sports in Elmwood and Playmakers Indoor Sports in Covington, as well as at outdoor facilities in New Orleans, St. Bernard and the Northshore. The team will be participating in numerous community events and fans are encouraged to request players for appearances at local schools, clubs or churches beginning in May.
